Set by a magnificent three-quarter mile white beach, on an island surrounded by colourful coral reefs, all-inclusive Vatulele Island Resort is a luxury escape only dreams are made of.

Vatulele Island is located south of the mainland of Viti Levu. The Resort is situated on the western side of the Island, comprising 85 acres, and boasting a unique architectural style. Access to limestone cliffs, caves and Fijian sacred sites enhances the Island's tropical mystique.

Vatulele is the only island resort in the Pacific to be admitted to Relais & Chateaux, an exclusive hotel membership association and is a member of Small Luxury Hotels.

Set back from a stunning stretch of white sand beach, 19 accommodation bures provide generous personal space together with natural architecture to present a new standard of luxury in the region. At either end of the resort's own beach are two oversized villas, The Point and Vale Viqi, providing commanding views, private pools and full-time personal butler service.

Vale Viqi

Vale Viqi (pronounced 'varlay vingy') pink house, is the name for the grand honeymoon bure. The most remote of the bures, this uniquely designed bure is noted for its extreme privacy and architectural detailing. Vale Viqi provides a spacious 182 square metres, or 1,960 square feet of generous proportions plus a private courtyard and decking area ideal for open-air entertaining. It offers air conditioning throughout, entertainment system, two indoor showers, outdoor shower, bidet, intimate dining area and a private plunge pool, all surrounded by beautiful tropical foliage leading to convenient beach access.

A full-time personal butler resides in nearby quarters along with permanent electric cart transportation. Like its big sister The Point, Vale Viqi becomes heavily booked as it is ideally suited to honeymooners and guests looking for an exclusive villa experience

Deluxe Beach Bure with Pool

The villas or bures are spacious and private, enjoying easy access to the water, each with its stretch of white sand beach. Twelve doors open to an expansive terrace, and from the living room, you walk up three steps to the bedroom, with a king-sized bed and a dressing area. Some bures offer air-conditioning, wine fridge, flat screen TV, DVD player, surround sound system, swimming pool and outdoor shower. The bures are located more than twenty metres apart from the next, affording guests total privacy, surrounded by dense natural jungle.

Deluxe Beach Bure

The villas or bures (pronounced 'boo-rays') are spacious and private, enjoying easy access to the water, each with its stretch of white sand beach. Twelve doors open to an expansive terrace, and from the living room, you walk up three steps to the bedroom with a king-sized bed and a dressing area. The bures are located more than twenty metres apart from the next, affording guests total privacy, surrounded by dense natural jungle.

The Point

This is a premium bure providing a commanding view of the idyllic lagoon and the entire stretch of beach.

It has two levels, with air conditioning and two private fresh water plunge pools. Additionally the villa is attended by a personal butler who is trained to anticipate every need. This bure is in high demand with honeymooners and high profile guests seeking total privacy.

Vatulele is well recognised for its food, ranging from Californian to Thai, Japanese, Austral/Asian and Indian - in fact, any style that suits their glorious tropical climate and laid back lifestyle. Fresh ingredients are flown in daily from Australia and New Zealand. Naturally there is an emphasis on seafood. Because of their all inclusive tariff, there are ample opportunities to sample the contents of their first class cellar, including unlimited French champagne! In the welcoming warm weather, meals are taken on a terrace outside their large central pavilion overlooking the lagoon. By night, tables are set under the stars and lit by lanterns and candlelight. At full moon, the 'dining room' is usually set by the water's edge. Dining is usually communal, and hosted by the management - in the style of the Captain's table on a ship.

However, don't imagine that they ignore that special occasion or the chance to have a romantic dinner for two. There are many options for private dinners, their wine cellar, in 'The Folly', or on the beach with moon and lantern light.

Village Trip

Our bus will take you to one of four of Vatulele's resident native villages, where you will meet the chief of the island, who will welcome the guests with the official Fijian Kava ceremony. After a brief wander through the village, you will have the opportunity to buy local jewellery, handicrafts and tapa cloth made by the villagers themselves. We recommend that you take small denomination of Fijian currency ($5, $10 or $20) and a camera. The resort asks that guests dress somewhat conservatively; long skirts or shorts, plus covered shoulders. At some times of the year, guests like to watch a local football game called rugby.

Picnics

Picnic breakfasts and lunches are available for visits to Nooki Nooki Island. The resort will provide you with shade, transportation and a picnic hamper with food items selected from our picnic menu. You will need shoes - preferably ones that you do not mind getting wet - and general beach items such as a towel, sunscreen, etc. You should pre-book with the Food & Beverage department a couple of days in advance as these activities are very popular. Snorkelling equipment may also be of some enjoyment to you.

The Legendary Red Prawns

This involves a short boat trip and pleasant fifteen minute walk along the base of our sandstone cliffs, through tropical rainforest until arriving at the tidal rock pools which house Vatulele's sacred red prawns. Along the way you will be able to view ancient petroglyphs, one of which our logo is based upon. The legend surrounding the red prawns is well described in the information folder in your bure. You will need to wear shoes (preferably reef walkers) and insect repellent at certain times of the year.

Cave Walk

This hike takes about 30 minutes in each direction. Along the way you will be informed of the local Fijian bush medicine and see small plantations of young mulberry trees used to make tapa cloth. There are two caves, one of which contains a crystal clear pool of water, deep enough for swimming and allowing enough daylight in to see the multitude of stalegtites overhead. You will need sturdy walking shoes, your swimming costume, towel and insect repellent at certain times of the year.

Snorkelling

While you are free to snorkel at your own leisure in and around the resort, we recommend most visitors to join the activities team for a snorkelling trip to the reef by boat. This is actually located some distance from the shore however the boat will moor on the deep side allowing you to see the varying types of marine life as the coral wall descends. Take your towel and plenty of sunscreen. Snorkels, masks and fins are available upon request from the activities bure located on the main beach.

Private Dinners

It is possible to organise private meals for two in a number of locations on Vatulele. Guests may choose from such locations as the wine cellar, on the beach, the terrace of their bure and the folly overlooking the resort. It is advised that the guest books these private dinners in advance with the Food & Beverage Department as the resort is only able to accept one couple at a time in some of these locations.

Scuba Diving

Scuba Diving is available at the resort on a daily basis. We have a PADI certified Gold Palm 5 star resort with two resident instructors. You will not be in large groups and your instruction will be very one-on-one. It would be difficult to find better circumstances to obtain a scuba certification!

Lighthouse Walk

More of a good walk than a hike, this trip takes approximately 25 minutes through the rainforest. The path is rocky and uneven in some places, so good walking shoes are required. Vatulele does not recommend climbing the lighthouse. However the view from the top is spectacular.

Fishing

Is not one of our advertised or included activities. However you should contact us if you are interested in experiencing fishing during your stay.

Spa Therapies

We have a Fijian therapist offering massage at an additional charge. Price available on application.
